The sapwood of sakura is creamy white while the heartwood ranges from faint brown to a light tan in color.

Sakura is somewhat of a softer choice for wood flooring. It is just under five percent harder than black cherry, nearly identical in hardness to teak, close to seventy-seven percent as hard as red oak, roughly sixty-eight percent as hard as hard maple, about sixty-one percent as hard as wenge, and about forty-six percent as hard as santos mahogany’s ranking of 2200.
