North India and China’s Himalayan region.
Appearance:
The sapwood of mindi is yellowish-white in color, while the heartwood is reddish, becoming more reddish-brown after exposure. The species has a straight grain, is lusterous, and is coarse and uneven in texture.
Properties:
Mindi has a natural resistance to decay and fungus. The wood remains smooth under friction and has been reported to have a faint musk-like odor. Mindi dries easily with little shrinking or warping resulting from the process.
Workability:
Mindi is easy to machine and saws properly. Pre-boring is suggested, yet the wood holds nails well once applied. Glue holds well with mindi flooring. This species takes polish well and sands to a smooth finish.
Principal Uses:
Mindi’s uses include furniture, veneers, and boxes and chests.
